My family and I try to get away for a family holiday once every year but it gets harder and harder to do thanks to the recent recession. I didn’t lose my job, but everything just seems more expensive, and the pinch has meant that I have not had a pay rise for the last four years. Another problem is that the exchange rate is so bad in Europe these days. When most European countries converted to the Euro things seemed ok, but all the while since, the Euro has strengthened against the pound and we just don’t get as much for our money anymore.

I decided this year to try and resolve the problem by going somewhere which did not have the Euro, and I discovered that Turkey was still independent of it. I had a look around online and found some pretty cheap flights to Dalaman and I also tracked down a rather nice looking apartment block with a luxury flat available to rent for a lot less than luxury prices! It looked like I had managed to find something that the whole family would be happy with for a fraction of the price of our normal holiday, and when we got there everything would be cheaper too!

I told my family what I had booked and they were all thrilled. My daughter had a friend who had been there the year before and she said it was the most beautiful place she had ever been. I hoped she was right, but either way, everyone else was happy so I was happy!
